“Stunningly good…” New York Times

With his musical roots firmly planted in jazz and gospel, pianist Jonathan Thomas lives in multiple musical worlds, including R&B, fusion, traditional and modern jazz, and funk.

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Thomas’s style has benefited from the city’s wide range of jazz veterans and swing-rooted tradition. Creative influences such as Ahmad Jamal, Oscar Peterson, Kenny Kirkland, Robert Glasper, and Brad Mehldau all lend their sound to his own musical approach.

With that background, he’s gone on to play jazz festivals around the world and has performed with jazz luminaries such as Charles Tolliver, Marquis Hill, and Bruce Williams, among many others.

And now Jonathan Thomas and his trio will be joined on the Avalon stage by special guest Imani Rousselle, a Texas-born vocalist with skills beyond her tender years when it comes to interpreting and delivering the healing powers of song.
