Is it merely a coincidence that both Charles Mingus, one of the greatest jazz musicians in history, and the Avalon Theatre were born 100 years ago this year? We think not.
The Avalon’s Stoltz Listening Room is the perfect venue to experience the Julian Brezon Quartet’s tribute to Mingus’ hot and soulful iconoclastic style that draws from gospel music and blues as well as free jazz and classical music.
Julian Brezon is a saxophonist, composer, and multimedia artist residing in Brooklyn, NY. A graduate of UMBC and Baltimore’s Peabody Institute, he’s received multiple grants from the Maryland State Arts Council.
Brezon will be joined by Alan Blackman (piano), Blake Meister (bass), and Allen Branch (drums).
