“(The) most eclectic and least stodgy of the so-called ‘trad’ jazz groups currently active in town. (Their) approach vividly illustrates that fun and intelligence are not mutually exclusive states of mind.” — Where Y’at Magazine
Panorama has been bringing all sorts of music into all sorts of situations since the mid-‘90s, always with a strong New Orleans party vibe cultivated over years of entertaining locals and tourists alike in their native Crescent City. Their instrumentation (clarinet, alto saxophone, trombone, accordion, banjo, tuba and drums) lends itself to music from a wide range of international cultures as well as that of Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, Fats Domino, and Professor Longhair.
With performances at regional, national and international music festivals, as well as their long-standing Saturday night gig at the Spotted Cat on New Orleans’ world-famous Frenchmen Street, Panorama’s seven players make a party that ranges from the Caribbean to Eastern Europe, Latin America, and New Orleans, all with a Big Easy feel.
For the second set, Panorama will be joined by DC area percussionist Steve Bloom. Steve has been a busy percussionist on the highly eclectic, international scene in DC and around the world for decades. Working with musicians in a "panorama" of communities, traditions and styles from Brazilian to Persian to Celtic, to all kinds of Caribbean, Latin American, Middle Eastern and West African musics. Steve has performed and recorded with such luminaries as Tito Puente, Pedrito Martinez, King Sunny Adé, Doc Cheatham, adopted New Orleanian Bill Summers, the 80s fusion band Natural Bridge and the electric bass phenom Michael Manring.
